Meet #MedFoodHero Ambassador: Renato Álvarez

Renato Álvarez was born into a “neo-rural” family who were trailblazers of organic farming in Andalusia. They were also members of the first social movements and associations dedicated to the production and organic food. Since he was little he was involved in agriculture until he decided to study Environmental Sciences at the Pablo de Olavide University (Seville).
At the end of the 90’s, the family decided to dedicate themselves to training by founding a School of Agro-environmental Education called the Ecological Garden ‘Los Seises’, where educational activities on ecological agriculture are taught. He developed a professional career, combining his passion as a trainer at the farm and working for Educational Programs at the Ministry of Education and Environment, training teachers (and students) throughout Andalusia with regard to school gardens, food, climate change, recycling.
Currently, he devotes his time to training as well as to communication on TV (El Huerto de Renato), social networks and audiovisual production. Renato also provides technical advice for professional Ecological Producers and develops various programs for agro-environmental education in his region with a team of specialised monitors.
